marwa is a writer, producer & artist in brooklyn, new york

marwa is invested in storytelling as an act of transformation.

Born from the communities of Omdurman, Sudan, Marwa recognizes the power of story-sharing to bequeath valuable ancestral knowledge and technologies.

Her written, audio, & visual essays use Sudanese images, rituals and symbols as points of departure.

By centering centering queer narratives in her writing, visuals & performance, Marwa troubles traditional structures of Islamic & Nubian cosmologies.

marwa identifies as a queer, femme, Muslim Nubian woman.

As a first-generation, Sudanese-American immigrant Marwa prioritizes work that speaks to the intersections of her lived experience.

Marwa’s practice is centered in cultural organizing as an advocacy tool, she excels at curating public spaces for community gathering.

Marwa uses her skill as a grant writer, production manager and cultural programmer to amplify the stories of queer, survivor, and Black immigrant communities.

Marwa is the founder and creative director of Our Political Home (OPH), an incubator for art created by trans & queer storytellers of the African diaspora. OPH has been awarded grants through The LGBTQ Community Center, We Are Family Foundation, and the Laundromat Project.

Marwa holds a BA in Political Science and Women and Gender Studies from Boston College.

You can find Marwa’s work published in Autostraddle, Blavity, The Cut, USA Today, and AURN
